Mention vs a mention-monitoring API

Mention is a media-monitoring suite sold as a single Company plan: social networks, news, blogs, forums and more than 75 review sites, with sentiment, custom and white-label reports, Slack and Zapier integrations, and an account manager. It is built for a company that monitors its reputation as a team. A mention-monitoring API answers a smaller question, whether new posts naming you appeared on a few platforms, and hands them to your code. The price of the first is a sales-led plan; the price of the second is a few dollars of checks.

Mention figures read from their own pages on 2026-11-01. Pricing moves. Check before you rely on it.

What does Mention do better?

Review sites, news, X, Facebook and Pinterest

Their Company plan lists Facebook, Instagram, X, Reddit, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, news, blogs, forums and more than 75 review sites. Reviews and the press are where a reputation problem usually starts, and we check none of them, nor X, Facebook or Pinterest.

Reports, sentiment and a team workspace

Sentiment and trend identification, custom dashboards, white-label reports, multi-user access with roles, and Slack and Zapier integrations are all in the plan. We return posts and stop there; a team that needs to share, tag and present mentions would be rebuilding most of that themselves.

A human to help you set it up

The plan includes a dedicated account manager, custom onboarding and training, and priority support. We have documentation and nothing resembling an account manager. For a company rolling monitoring out to a non-technical team, that support is worth paying for.

Choose Mention if

  • Review sites, news or X are where your reputation is decided.
  • A team needs a shared workspace with roles, reports and Slack alerts.
  • You want onboarding and an account manager rather than documentation.
  • You need sentiment and white-label reports for clients.

Choose TrueScrape if

  • You are a founder who wants to type your product name into a free checker, see mentions in seconds with no account, and then watch the term in a dashboard with one click, with no seat or plan.
  • You are a developer: one POST /v1/monitors with a term and an optional webhook URL, signed webhooks carrying only new posts, the same API key and credits as every other endpoint, and MCP tools for agents.
  • Hacker News, Bluesky or Threads matter to you, which Mention does not list.
  • You want an API without a paid add-on, and a price you can read before you sign up.

Questions people actually ask

How much does Mention cost?
On 2026-11-01 Mention listed a single Company plan. The amount after "Starting at" was not readable on the page we fetched, so we do not quote one; the page offers two months free on yearly billing. API access and historical data are both paid add-ons on top of the plan.
Does Mention still do social media publishing?
Not for much longer. Their pricing FAQ says the Publish and Respond features are being deprecated and points users to Agorapulse. If publishing was the reason you were looking at Mention, check that before buying.
How do I set it up as a founder or as a developer?
A founder can type the brand name into the free checker at /tools/brand-mentions, see mentions in seconds without an account, and click "Watch this term" to get a dashboard feed. A developer sends one POST /v1/monitors with the term and an optional webhook URL; new posts arrive as signed webhooks, and the same tools are exposed over MCP. Docs are at /docs/monitors.
What is the honest case for Mention here?
It watches review sites, news, X and Facebook, which we do not, and it gives a team sentiment, reports, roles and an account manager. For a company whose reputation lives on review sites, or an agency reporting to clients, it is the right category of tool and a feed of posts is not.

How do you see who mentions your brand right now?

The free brand mention checker shows recent mentions with no account. Brand mention monitoring covers what a watched term costs, and how to track brand mentions without a subscription compares the paid tools.

The free grant is 1,000 credits and needs no card. It is sized to answer whether the data is good enough, which is the only question worth resolving before you commit.
