YouTube comment analyzer

Paste a video or Short URL to read its first comments and see which are liked most, which draw the most replies, how many are questions, and which words come up again and again.

How this works

YouTube returns comments twenty at a time, in its own ranking. The tool reads up to three pages, about sixty comments, then counts what those comments contain. The result says how many it read, because a figure about sixty comments is not a figure about a video with sixty thousand.

Every number is a plain count: total likes on the comments read, comments ending in a question mark, comments pinned or written by the creator, and words of three letters or more that appear at least twice. A comment with no published like count is left out of the like totals rather than counted as zero. There is no sentiment score.

Reading further is a cursor loop. Each page is one credit, and a cached page is free:

paging through comments
curl "$API/v1/youtube/video/comments?url=https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ" \
  -H "x-api-key: $KEY"
# data.items holds 20 comments; pagination.cursor is the next page
curl "$API/v1/youtube/video/comments?url=...&cursor=$CURSOR" -H "x-api-key: $KEY"

Questions

Does it read every comment on the video?
No. It reads the first few pages YouTube returns, about 60 comments, in the order YouTube ranks them. That is not the newest comments and not a random sample, so a tally here describes those comments and says nothing reliable about the whole video. The result states how many it read.
What does it count?
Only what can be computed from the comments it read: total likes on them, the most liked and most replied-to, how many are pinned or written by the video’s creator, how many end in a question mark, the words that appear at least twice, and the share with at least one like. There is no sentiment score and no AI summary.
Why does it say the video has no comments?
Either nobody has commented or the creator turned comments off, and YouTube’s public page does not tell the two apart. Videos marked as made for kids have comments off. The tool shows the API’s own wording for it.
Are replies included?
No. Each comment shows its reply count, but the replies themselves are a separate request per comment, so this page reads top-level comments only.
Can I get the total number of comments?
Not from this tool. The comment pages carry no total. The video analyzer shows the comment count YouTube displays on the video.
How do I do this in code?
GET /v1/youtube/video/comments takes a video URL and returns 20 comments a page, with a cursor for the next page. Each page is 1 credit, and a cached page costs nothing.
