X thumbnail downloader

Paste an X or Twitter post link and save the cover image of its video or GIF. It works on public posts, needs no account, and the image comes from X to you, not through us.

Only save thumbnails you made or have permission to use. We do not store or host anything: the file goes from X to your device.

How to save a thumbnail

  1. Copy the link: on X tap Share, then Copy link, or copy the address from your browser.
  2. Paste it in the box above and press Get thumbnail.
  3. Check the preview, then press Download thumbnail to keep the file.

The file comes from X’s servers straight to your device, so it uses your connection, not ours.

How this works

Paste a link to a public X or Twitter post, one anyone can open without signing in. We look up the address of its video’s cover image, and your browser downloads the file from X directly, so it never passes through our server and we keep no copy. You get a preview and a button that saves it, within a limited number of downloads per hour.

Questions

Where does the thumbnail come from?
From X’s own servers, straight to your device. We look up the address and your browser downloads the file. We do not store, host or relay it.
What if the post has no video?
A post with photos gives its first photo, in the reduced copy X uses as a preview. The X image downloader saves photos at original size. A post with neither has nothing to save.
What size is it?
The size X publishes for that video’s preview, which varies. We save that file as it is, with no upscaling.
Is it allowed?
Save only thumbnails you made or have permission to use. That a file is public does not make it free to reuse, and posting someone else’s work as your own can infringe their copyright and X’s terms.
Is there a limit?
Yes. Each visitor gets a limited number of downloads per hour, so the tool stays free for everyone. When you reach it, the page says when it resets.
